Lived Charism
In Italy we are having six communities, inserted in six parishes and spread over the following three regions of Italy: Lombardia, Liguria and Piemonte. A seventh community of our aged sisters is located in Sondrio. This latter community consists of two groups of sisters. In one of these groups the sisters are not yet too old and therefore, according to their capability, are still involved in three parishes in the city and nearby places.
In all our parishes in which we are involved we collaborate in catechesis and youth work. We share in the task of formation of catechists and youth animators. In some of the parishes we meet young couples preparing them for the baptism of their children. We visit sick people and bring Holy Communion to them.
It is important to prepare lay people for various ministries in the Church. By drawing lay people into such ministries the Christian Community becomes enriched and communication between various professionals is encouraged.
Focal points
- Integral formation of youth
- Pastoral work in parishes
- Support of lay people with whom we work. Together we want to build up the Kingdom of God.
In spite of decreasing numbers, with hope and confidence in God for whom nothing is impossible, we respond to the challenges of our time. With this attitude we participate in “cultural mediation”. By so doing we promote integration between various cultures and encourage inter-religious dialogue. We are specially involved in the empowerment of women from foreign countries helping them to find their place in society.
Sisters on the leadership team in the Province of Italy
We sisters in the leadership team had to take a good and hard look at our present situation in the province. We used to put to ourselves the rather pessimistic question: "how will we be able to continue? What does the future hold for us?
Our Congregational Leadership gave us a powerful stimulus and shook us forcefully out of our apathy. Our present reality forced us to close some of our houses and instead look at burning issues in our country today. This led us to open small communities in those areas where social problems required our presence most.
Sr Imelda experiences life in one of these communities as follows:
"I am happy in the mission entrusted to me which calls me to care for refugee children. In the small community in which we share life we find a good support for the difficulties and stress which this mission entails. I have new hope for the future. Many changes have taken place in our province."
