Some years ago I gave up my work as medical doctor in the hospital setting in favour of PGD. PGD stands for broader perspective of comprehensive health care service which takes into account the social, economic and spiritual aspects of people. It moves away from the individualised, sickness-orientated model of health care and instead is directed towards the liberation of the whole person. This we see as truly Good News for the Poor (Lk 4:18-19).

Focal Points
- We are involved in the movement of emancipation of women. Our aim is the equality of all women in our society.
- School education of children.
- Home visits to meet women and raise their awareness of their dignity, rights and responsibilities.
- Health education.
- Social work.
- Family apostolates and participation in "Shared-prayer" groups.
- Education of various women's organisations. We try to offer tools which help them to fight against injustice and cruelty.
- Motivation and education of women for skills to assist them to earn a living. Some of these skills are dressmaking and other handcrafts.
- Courses in leadership skills; literacy classes and sex education,etc.
Our goals and dreams could be summarised in the one statement: "that all may have fullness of life in Christ".
Links to the Province
In the recent past we have faced the challenge to open small communities in the midst of the people of Karnataka. Ninety percent of these people live below the poverty line and we ourselves experience the discrimination of women.
We offer education for women and young girls in forty very neglected villages. In these villages we train animators for comprehensive health care, helpers for home deliveries and for sixty families a self help project of carpet weaving. Our chief goal in this undertaking is personal and financial indepen-dence of these families. Together with them we fight against unjust and oppressive structures. This often brings us into conflict with people of the upper classes. But this is how we understand the meaning of ‘holistic formation’ of the human person in the context of Central India today.
