Lived charism

Holy Cross Sisters in the English province give expression to our hope in the Risen Jesus, through our living in community and our service given in our faith in the Risen Lord, who is also the Crucified Lord. Because we believe in today, we awaken, support and call people of Christian faith to the unfolding of their human potential. In our commitment to educating the whole person we accompany people just as they are, allowing the Spirit of Jesus of Nazareth in the Church, to be encountered as tangible and alive in various life situations.

In community we concern ourselves with the unfolding of life in each member and in the group.

As our founders did, we regard the education of the youth as a most needed service. In Parishes we work as canonical administrators, we guide parishioners in the preparation of liturgy, prepare adults for baptism and children and young people for the sacraments of initiation. In counselling and spiritual direction we commit ourselves to the unfolding of life in people and we seek to set energies free for a life lived according to the Gospel.

In our small but active province we are 19 sisters. Our pioneers came from Switzerland in the year 1902.

We Holy Cross Sisters of the English province are involved in school-apostolate and in various forms of pastoral work. We see our service very much as co-ordinators as well as members of a catechetical team. We organise courses of faith enrichment for adults. In parishes we guide parishioners in the preparation of liturgy. We prepare children and young people for the reception of the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation. As our founders did we regard the education of the young as our greatest concern. It is not just the achievement in the academic field but holistic education of the young that we regard as vital.
